On June 26-27, the team of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine held an information dissemination event: Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025 and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine Grants – New Opportunities for Ukrainian Scientists and Innovators. This time, the event took place in Rivne.

On June 26, the event was opened with welcoming speeches by Andriy Kuznetsov, First Deputy Executive Director of the NRFU for Grant Support, and Yehor Pyvovarov, Policy Officer (Research and Innovation), EU Delegation to Ukraine. In his speech, the EU representative pointed out that supporting the work of local scientists, researchers, and innovators was of great importance in the current situation. Among other things, he highlighted the higher education institutions in the region, which were centres of scientific activity and, despite the ongoing war in the country, continued to operate and develop the relevant areas. For its part, the European Union fully supported their activities, including funding.

It should be noted that the first day of the event was extremely informative. Participants learned about opportunities offered by both the National Research Foundation and the EU Horizon Europe Framework Programme, which provide important additional funding for institutional development. The following aspects of NRFU grant support were highlighted: the structure and specifics of the NRFU’s activities, its calls, the procedure for submitting and evaluating project applications, including the organisational and legal aspects of the selection process, project reporting, and the Open Science Strategy.

Besides, the event participants, who also were potential applicants for supporting programmes, had a chance to learn more about the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, opportunities within the Programme under the European Research Council (ERC), grant opportunities for entrepreneurs, and the legal aspects of participation in it.

Importantly, the event was attended by Oleksandr Kokhan, Deputy Head of the Rivne Regional State Administration. The representative of the Administration appealed to the participants with a proposition for open dialogue and cooperation, and also invited representatives of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, to hold a joint event for entrepreneurs of Rivne region in the near future.

Moreover, Igor Taranov, Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, presented the Office’s activities aimed at raising public awareness of the Programme, which in turn should help increase the number of successful applications. Participants also took part in the workshop with the Funding and Tenders Portal, the EU tool for finding calls for proposals, partners, and opportunities for researchers affected by the war, and so on.

Traditionally, the event ended with the Q&A session, during which both online participants and the audience asked their questions. Also, the attendees had a chance to talk to the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine experts in person during the Networking session.
