Home News Events Horizon Europe as a tool for open innovation development: participation in a series of practical workshops on open innovations

On October 23-24, representatives of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, attended a series of practical workshops “Open Innovation for Ukraine’s Recovery” organised by the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovation (UKRNOIVI / IP Office) in collaboration with Royal Holloway, University of London, with the support of the British Council for Economic and Social Research, Reactor.ua and the Women’s Energy Club of Ukraine. The aim was to provide participants with an understanding of the essence of open innovation and practical tools for its use, in particular to show how this approach can accelerate the development of the Ukrainian innovation ecosystem.

During the networking, representatives of the Office, leading officers Olena Kharina and Oleksandr Moiseiev, presented opportunities for Ukrainian scientists, researchers, and innovators to participate in the Horizon Europe Programme as one of the best and most efficient tools for the development of open innovation. Among the arguments provided by the experts were:

  • The Programme brings together academics, entrepreneurs, the government and NGOs from around the world, creating an open ecosystem for the exchange of ideas, technologies and research results.
  • Finances the entire innovation process, from idea to implementation (from fundamental research to commercialisation of solutions, promoting the creation of start-ups and technological disruptions).
  • Encourages and stimulates partnerships between science, business and government, creating an interdisciplinary space for innovation.
  • Provides open access to research results: all publications, data and project methodologies are available in open access mode, which increases sustainability and accelerates scientific progress.

In addition, Horizon Europe aims to address global challenges – climatic, technological, social – and creates conditions in which open innovation brings practical benefits to society.

During group discussions, participants worked on identifying open innovation assets, analysing the risks of cooperation, and developing partnerships. Specialists from Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine shared practical advice on the first steps in the Programme and presented successful cases of Ukrainian participants.

In general, during the sessions, the participants received:

– practical tools for the development of innovative projects, finding partners and minimising the risks of cooperation

– experience of real international and Ukrainian cases

– the possibility of professional networking with experts and exchange of practices from various fields (military, pharmaceutical, construction, energy, agro, etc.)

– understanding how to shape a culture of open innovation within their organisation and forging partnerships with experts.

We would like to inform you that on October 30, 2025, the last workshop in this series will be held in Lviv, so we strongly recommend Ukrainian scientists, researchers and innovators to visit it and gain additional knowledge about open innovations and tools for attracting partners, creating consortia, etc.

Please note that participation in the event is free, but the number of places is limited and only with the registration.

All selected participants will receive an invitation specifying the place and time of the workshop. Find out the details of the programme and podcast on the topic of open innovations on the website of the IP Office.
