Research and innovation as a driver of Ukraine’s integration into the global research area: NRFU celebrated World Science Day in the name of peace and development
On November 12, an event on the dissemination of information “Research and innovation as a driver of Ukraine’s integration into the global research area” took place in Kyiv. The event was dedicated to World Science Day in the name of peace and development, which is celebrated annually on November 10.
The participants were congratulated on the Day by both representatives of the Government of Ukraine and the European Union. Among them: Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Denys Kurbatov, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education, Science and Innovation Serhiy Babak, Head of the RTD 03 Department of International Cooperation between Europe and America of the European Commission Karol Mansel-Blanchard, General Secretary of the Science Europe Association Lidia Borrell-Damian, a permanent participant in events held by the National Research Fund of Ukraine for potential applicants throughout the country Yehor Pyvovarov, expert on political issues in the field of science and innovation of the EU Representation in Ukraine.
In addition, Oleksandra Antonyuk, head of the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine on Science and Technology, and Olga Polotska, executive director of the National Research Fund of Ukraine, addressed the audience with welcoming words. They congratulated the participants of the event and thanked the EU for its reliable support, which contributes to the faster integration of Ukraine into the European and global research spaces.
In addition, during the event, the World Science Day was celebrated with certificates of honor and thanks from the NRFU for a significant personal contribution to the development of the grant financing system and a significant contribution to the support of Ukrainian scientists, as well as for active participation in international scientific and technical cooperation.
Among other things, the working part of the event focused on such issues as:
integration of Ukraine into the European and global research spaces and synergy of European programs: Eva Kosinska-Lange, policy specialist of the Directorate General for Research and Innovation, the European Innovation Council (RTD A3) of the European Commission presented opportunities for Ukrainian researchers and entrepreneurs in the initiatives of the European Innovation Council, and the director of the Representation of the Free University of Berlin in Eastern Europe, Tobias Stüdemann, spoke about smart international partnership;
support tools within the framework of European Research Council competitions: namely, Gianca Matrai, science specialist of the Executive Agency of the European Research Council, informed about funding schemes, latest innovations and additional support programs within the framework of the ERC.
The participants of the event were also presented with the successful stories of Ukrainian researchers in the competitions of the National Academy of Sciences (Mykhailo Slyvka, professor of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Uzhhorod National University: ways of creating and prospects for hybrid materials; Olga Zvirko, head of the department for diagnosing corrosion-hydrogen degradation of materials of the Physical and Mechanical Institute named after H. IN. Karpenka of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: prospects for repurposing the gas transportation network for hydrogen in the green reconstruction of Ukraine), as well as the EU Programme Horizon Europe (Stefan Zaichenko, professor of the Department of Automation of Electrical and Mechatronic Complexes of the National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Ihor Sikorskyi»: the path of Ukrainian cities to climate neutrality together with Europe: the U_CAN project; Roman Yatsyshyn, rector of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University and Khrystyna Lesiv, head of International Relations at the University: A Success Story in the UNCAN-CONNECT Project).
