Call for Partners and a Consortium Coordinator for Participation in the Horizon Europe Programme
Dear Colleagues,
Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the NRFU would like to inform you that the Institute of Plant Protection – National Research Institute (IPP-NRI, Poland) is seeking partners and a consortium coordinator to prepare a project proposal under the HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-BIODIV-01 – Understanding and tackling the decline of insects call of the Horizon Europe Programme.
IPP-NRI is a leading Polish research institution specializing in plant health, crop protection, and sustainable agriculture. The Institute conducts both fundamental and applied research, provides scientific expertise, and develops innovative, environmentally friendly solutions for plant protection. IPP-NRI is well positioned to make a substantial contribution to the project through its interdisciplinary approach, combining long-term insect monitoring, biodiversity assessment, agroecological research, and the development of science-based solutions for the sustainable management of natural resources.
In particular, IPP-NRI:
- operates a unique network of four Johnson suction traps located in different regions of Poland and maintains extensive historical insect collections, providing long-term datasets for analysing changes in insect abundance and diversity;
- has extensive expertise in investigating the impacts of climate change, land-use change, and agricultural practices on insect populations and ecosystem functioning;
- conducts biodiversity research focusing on underrepresented insect groups, including aphids (Aphididae), leafhoppers (Cicadomorpha), planthoppers (Fulgoromorpha), true flies (Diptera), as well as selected representatives of beetles (Coleoptera) and butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera);
- applies advanced taxonomic and molecular genetic methods, including DNA barcoding and other genomic approaches, enabling the development of harmonised monitoring methodologies, reference databases, and standardized biodiversity assessment protocols;
- investigates the interactions between plant protection measures, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem services, with particular emphasis on biological pest control and improving the ecological resilience of agroecosystems;
- has experience in conducting systematic reviews, meta-analyses, integrating historical and contemporary datasets, and developing evidence-based recommendations to support decision-making and policymaking in biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, and sustainable food systems;
- follows the principles of Open Science and FAIR data management, and actively collaborates with farmers, agricultural advisory services, plant protection authorities, and the international scientific community across Central and Eastern Europe, ensuring effective knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, and wide dissemination of research results.
