On October 12, a webinar on the tools for enhancing innovative development and synergy between science and business in the restoration of Ukraine was held. Igor Taranov, Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, joined the event as a guest speaker. PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Head of the Office presented the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe as one of the tools to intensify the development of domestic business, in particular, grant opportunities for enterprises under the Programme.

Igor Taranov provided statistics on the participation of Ukrainian organisations in the Programme projects and the funding they received, emphasising that business received a third of the total funding, which is extremely important for the country’s economy today. He spoke about the criteria used to determine potential applicants, other aspects and conditions for companies to participate in calls, as well as open for submission and forthcoming calls for business.

Answering the participants’ questions, the representative of the Office informed about additional special instruments introduced by the European Commission to support Ukrainians after the full-scale invasion of russia. He spoke about the ERA4UKRAINE and MSCA4UKRAINE initiatives, allocating additional funding for start-ups that were forced to leave the country for safer locations to continue their activities. There are also special calls for Ukraine, such as a call dedicated to the formation of public policy and evaluation of research infrastructure in Ukraine.

Other speakers included the President of the Agency of European Innovation, a representative of Ukraine in Horizon Europe Digitalisation, Industry and Space Committee, who provided practical recommendations for attracting grant funding for joint projects of science and business. In addition, Nicole Kruettgen – project manager at the Zukunftsagentur Rheinisches Revier Agency (Department of Resources and agribusiness), spoke about how ideas are created and how innovative projects are implemented within the Agency’s activities and with the support of the Agency.

The event, dedicated to the interaction of business and science in today’s challenging environment and the role of innovative enterprise development in the post-war recovery of our country, was held as part of the business forum: Made in Ukraine, which is taking place in Kyiv at the National Cultural, Art and Museum Complex Mystetskyi Arsenal. The event was organised by the Department of Investment and Innovation Development and External Relations of the Donetsk Regional State Administration.
