Department “Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine”, NRFU continues to advise the research community of Ukraine. Thus, on January 19, 2026, representatives of the Office conducted a consultation on the possibilities of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe with Volodymyr Dzhagan, Deputy Scientific Director of the V. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
At the beginning of the meeting, the parties presented themselves, their teams and activities. For his part, Volodymyr Dzhagan emphasised the critical need for the development of the semiconductor industry for our country in the conditions of ongoing war and further development of the economy.
Specialists of the Office provided information about the Horizon Europe calls related to the extraction and processing of advanced materials, production and standardisation of microcircuits, outlined the directions of research within the calls, which will be announced in the near future on the website of the European Commission. Among other things, the representative of the academic institution received advice on European partnerships, finding partners, participating in brokerage events, creating a consortium and other issues related to the preparation of competitive project applications.
As a result of the consultation, the parties agreed on further steps. In particular, the Office’s team will, if necessary, hold additional offline meetings and online consulting during the preparation of a project proposal for the submission by the Institute of Semiconductor Physics.
Microcircuits (or chips), also known as semiconductors – building material for all electronic devices. They underlie digital transformation and are essential for all industries such as automotive, mobile communications, data processing, space, defense, smart devices, etc. The global shortage of chips disrupted supply chains, caused a shortage of – products from cars to – medical devices, and in some cases even forced factories to close. The European Chips Act was proposed as part of a broader package of measures to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem in the EU and entered into force on September 21, 2023.
In addition, on January 22, 2026, an online consultation was held for representatives of the Voznesensk City Council of the Mykolaiv Region, including Olena Bela, a specialist in the external relations and project activities of the Department of Strategic Planning and Development of the Executive Committee of the Voznesensk City Council.
The requesters turned to the employees of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine as specialists who have relevant experience and expert knowledge and are open to appeals, with a request to work on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. The representatives of the institution got acquainted with the instructions posted on the Portal, but in practice they faced certain difficulties. In particular, it was about placing information in the partner search section to declare their intention to be a partner in certain projects.
Nataliia Didenko, Deputy Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, which, among other things, conducts master classes, where in practice it shows potential applicants how to work with the Portal, step by step told how to register an organisation and get a PIC number, announce the desire to join the consortium, choose a call, look for partners for joint writing of a project proposal and a lot of other useful information.
Questioners have gained a clear understanding of the first steps in participating in the Horizon Europe Programme and working with the portal, answering all the questions, thus strengthening their knowledge and strengthening their desire to join the EU grant opportunities.
