Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU took part in the 2nd Joint Committee Meeting of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement to Horizon Europe and Euratom Programmes
On September 12, the second Joint Committee of the Ukraine-EU Research and Innovation Programmes Horizon Europe and Euratom took place. The 2nd working part of the event, which was held at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, attended the team of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU.
Igor Taranov, Head of the Department “Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine”, NRFU, presented the activities of the Office since its launching, which actively promotes awareness of the national research community about Horizon Europe, as well as an overview of Ukraine’s participation and statistics of achievements in the Programme.
Also, during the meeting, the Ukrainian side covered other topics, including:
- establishment and status of National Contact Points;
- implementation of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement in the Euratom Programme;
- Open Science approach in Ukraine;
- Ukraine’s progress in Horizon Europe and successful stories of participation in it.
For their part, speakers from the European Commission provided an update on the development of EU policy on the European Research Area, European Innovation, a Global Approach to Research and Innovation, and multilateral dialogue. In addition, they discussed the EU’s support for Ukraine, in particular, MSCA4UA, EIC4UA, EIT Initiatives, Cities Mission, and EURIZON grants for remote research for researchers from Ukraine.
The event has become an important platform for discussing the needs of Ukraine’s research and innovation sector, as well as further actions to accelerate Ukraine’s integration into the European research area.
The meeting was chaired by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Signe Ratso, Deputy Director-General for Innovation, Prosperity and International Cooperation, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission. The event was held in a hybrid format: representatives of the European Commission joined online. Beyond that, the EU delegation to Ukraine included Frederik Sondegaard, Policy Officer of the Association Horizon Europe “Shaping the Europe’s Horizon, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, EC, and Yegor Pyvovarov, Science Adviser, EU Mission to Ukraine. Ukraine was represented by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, the National Council of Ukraine for the Development of Science and Technology, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and regional academies of sciences, and representatives of the Horizon Europe National Contact Points.
