NULES hosted a training event on the feature of participation in the Horizon Europe Programme
Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU continues to carry out its work under any circumstances. Therefore, despite the prolonged morning massive anxiety on November 11, the Office specialists held a training and practical event “Feature of participation of Ukrainian researchers in the Horizon Europe calls” together with the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.
Olga Polotska, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, opened the event with a welcoming speech. The head of the Foundation greeted the participants and noted that the event would strengthen the university’s capacity in EU grant programmes, as well as provide an impetus for finding and creating partnerships. In addition, Olga Polotska presented statistics on the participation of the higher education institution, which hosted the event, in Horizon Europe, as the university is a very active participant in various scientific and research programmes.
Vadym Tkachuk, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Rector of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, also joined the greetings and informed the audience about the scientific activities of the institution, its participation not only in Horizon Europe but also in other EU grant programmes where it has successfully submitted applications. The rector of the university emphasised that the experience gained during the event would contribute to the development of science and research, both for the university as a whole and for each scientist in particular.
The working part began with a general overview of the EU’s flagship research and innovation Programme Horizon Europe, presented by Liudmyla Lisova, Leading Officer of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine. Igor Taranov, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, presented the HEOinUA-101132682 project – “Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine” – which has been successfully implemented for a year on the basis of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. In addition, the legal aspects and financial issues of participation in the Programme were highlighted by the Office’s leading officers Oleksandr Moiseiev, PhD in Law, and Olga Kurykina, PhD in Economics.
Since the event was educational and practical, the participants gained not only theoretical knowledge but also practical experience. Thus, Nataliia Didenko, PhD in Agriculture, Senior Researcher, Deputy Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, conducted a master class on the EU tool – the Funding and Tenders Portal. In particular, it was about how to use it correctly, select calls, look for partners, what kind of opportunities there are for scientists affected by the war, etc.
Finally, Q&A session was held, during which participants who attended the event in person and joined online had the opportunity to ask questions about participation in the Programme, as well as to communicate with the Office’s specialists responsible for specific areas within it. Summarising the event, Oleksandr Labenko, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Activities, NULES, expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation with Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, which is an important information component in overcoming difficulties on the way to successful participation in Horizon Europe. For his part, the Head of the Office, Igor Taranov, urged the participants not to hesitate and try to apply for the Programme’s calls, as success is possible only with proper preparation.
The event was held in compliance with all safety conditions for representatives of higher education institutions, research institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, NGOs and anyone interested in the opportunities of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe. In total, about 300 people took part in the online and offline format, which gives the organisers an understanding of the need for information events of this format.
