On June 07, a training and information event on grant opportunities of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and support tools within the Horizon Europe Programme was held in Khmelnytskyi at the Leonid Yuzkov Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law.

The event was inaugurated by Oleh Omelchuk, Rector of the Leonid Yuzkiv Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law. He welcomed the participants and spoke about the university’s participation in EU grant programmes. Volodymyr Honcharuk, First Deputy Chairman of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Council, and Andriy Voitseshchuk, Director of the Department of Specialized Training and Canine Support of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, also took part in the welcome speech. The speakers emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s integration into the global research area, especially in today’s war time in the country.

Igor Taranov, Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, also delivered his welcome speech and greeted the participants on behalf of the leadership of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. He emphasized cooperation between local authorities, educational and research institutions. Such synergy strengthens and promotes the development and improvement of Ukrainian science, research and innovation. He also wished everyone to create successful applications for participation in the Horizon Europe Programme, as it opens up great opportunities for participants. Also, the Head of the Office began the I Working Panel of the event with a presentation of the Funding and Tenders Portal. Igor Taranov gave a general overview of the platform, and spoke about certain aspects of project proposal preparation.

The leading officers of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, presented opportunities for Ukrainian researchers in the context of specific Programme components. In particular, Yulia Reminska, who is responsible for this area of the Programme, spoke about the peculiarities of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Maksym Kolisnyk presented the grant opportunities of the Horizon Europe for Ukrainian business.

In addition, Nadiya Naumova presented in detail the financial issues of participation in the Programme, which are most often raised by potential applicants during consultations or in their requests.

The II Working Panel was practical. Natalia Didenko, Deputy Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, gave a practical tour of the Funding and Tenders Portal, showing step-by-step how to use the platform. Also, Nadiia Naumova and Maksym Kolisnyk conducted a master class on analyzing a particular call for proposal to show how to start and what to consider when preparing a project application to make it successful for participation in the Programme.

The event was summarized by Tetiana Beregova, Head of the Grant Support Division, NRFU, Andrii Matkivskyi, Head of the Department of Monitoring of Grant Projects Implementation, NRFU, and Roman Palii, Head of the Department of Legal Support, who spoke about the opportunities offered by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine for Ukrainian scientists and researchers.

The Q&A session was very intense, as Khmelnytskyi University of Management and Law participates in the projects of the Horizon Europe. The audience asked many questions and received comprehensive answers from the Office’s experts. Finally, networking on practical issues of grant management took place.

The event was organized for representatives of higher education institutions, research institutions, small and medium-sized businesses, NGOs, and anyone interested in opportunities from the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe. Similar events are planned to be held in other cities of Ukraine.
