AI technologies as a key driver of research and innovation under the Horizon Europe Programme

Home News Useful information AI technologies as a key driver of research and innovation under the Horizon Europe Programme

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way research is conducted and innovation is delivered, both in Europe and globally. Within Horizon Europe, the Union’s flagship programme for research and innovation, AI is not only recognised as a strategic technological priority, but also as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration, skills development and responsible innovation. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), a key component of Pillar I “Excellent Science”, plays an essential role in training a new generation of highly skilled researchers capable of unlocking the full potential of AI. By supporting innovative doctoral and postdoctoral training programmes, fostering cross-sectoral and cross-border mobility, and providing valuable experience within AI-driven industries, MSCA projects equip researchers with the knowledge and skills needed to become leaders in Europe’s digital transformation and to drive forward the Union’s ambition for scientific excellence and technological leadership.

In light of these trends and emerging challenges, the European Commission is pleased to announce the launch of a new series of MSCA lunchtime conversations dedicated to the AI topic. This initiative aims to foster dialogue and knowledge exchange on the transformative role of AI in research, innovation and society.

The series will open with a professional discussion – MSCA lunchtime conversation on “Human-AI Co-creation: How can we bring the best of human and machine together?”, offering participants the opportunity to explore how AI and human intelligence can work together to optimise collaboration, enhance trust and ensure human-centric innovation.

Date: 23 May 2025.

Time: 12:30-14:00 (CEST).

Format: Online (registration required).

This first session will explore the transformative potential of human-AI collaboration, focusing on innovative approaches to combine human creativity, judgement and contextual awareness with the computational power, scalability and analytical capabilities of AI systems. The discussion aims to identify pathways towards the development of human-centric AI solutions that not only enhance the efficiency and robustness of collaborative processes, but also foster trust, acceptance and wider uptake of AI technologies across diverse sectors and user communities.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with leading experts, practitioners and European policymakers, who will present insights, tools and results from EU-funded research and innovation projects. These contributions will serve as a foundation for an interactive panel discussion and an open exchange of views with the audience, fostering a dynamic dialogue between science, policy and practice.
