On September 12, 2025, the staff members of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, held an information event “Selected aspects of participation in Horizon Europe Programme” at the The State Institution Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. The event was organised with the aim of raising public awareness of the Programme’s opportunities in the health sector. The event was attended not only by representatives of the mentioned institution, but also by participants from the other medical institutions interested in additional funding from the EU.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by Mykhailo Khyzhniak, Deputy Director of the State Institution Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. He thanked the Office team for organising the event and encouraged participants to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the EU Framework Programme.

For her part, Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, welcomed the participants and expressed the full support of the Foundation, and in particular its structural division, Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, on their journey towards the European Research Area. Andriy Butenko, Head of the Department of International and Interagency Relations, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, also delivered a welcoming speech.

The experts presented the opportunities offered by Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship programme for research and innovation (Liudmyla Lisova, Leading Officer of the Department), described the activities and results of the Office for Ukrainian participants in the Programme since its launch (Igor Taranov, Head of the Department), and provided guidance on the first steps in the Programme, in particular the specifics of working with the EU Funding and Tenders Portal (Nataliia Didenko, Deputy Head of the Department). Special attention was paid to opportunities and current calls within the Cluster Health and the EU Mission Cancer, which were presented in detail by Tayisiya Symochko, Leading Officer of the Department.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session. The audience and those who joined online were interested in the projects successfully implemented by Ukrainian participants within the Programme, expressed their gratitude for holding such an event at the Institute, and expressed their intention to continue close cooperation.

We remind that on August 15, representatives of the Institute of Neurosurgery paid a working visit to the Office to learn more about European grant programmes, in particular the EU’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme
