Cooperation to strengthen the state’s defense capability: meeting of the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine with representatives of the Horizon Europe Programme Committee and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine

On February 16, 2024, experts of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine took part in a working meeting with a representative of the Horizon Europe Programme Committee “Digitalization, Industry and Space”. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the development of further cooperation within the programme committee, as well as to find opportunities for funding science in the military sphere. The event was also attended by a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Representatives of the General Staff expressed interest in all opportunities to fund projects aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and developing research in the defense sector. For their part, the Head and specialists of the Office spoke in detail about the Horizon Europe calls related to the topics of the interlocutors’ work and the possibility of attracting reimbursed funds from Horizon 2020 to finance feasibility studies for projects. The participants were also introduced to other programs and projects focused on strengthening defense capabilities and developing science in the military and defense sector, including Euratom, Digital Europe, Science for Security and Peace (NATO), and others. In addition, special attention was paid to international projects to mine the Black Sea.

The participants of the meeting shared their vision of resolving the issues raised and ways to promote Ukraine’s interests in strengthening its defense capabilities in the international arena and expressed a desire to hold a series of joint information events in the future.
