Science Day 2024: Integration of Ukraine into the Global Research Area
On May 17, an information event “Integration of Ukraine into the Global Research Area” was held as part of the celebration of Science Day. The event was organized to introduce opportunities for Ukrainian researchers and innovators to promote science and innovation.
The event opened with welcome speaches Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukrain, Silvia Bojinova, Team leader of the European Neighbourhood Partnership countries, European Commission DG Research & Innovation, Roman Hryshchuk, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Member of the Committee on Education, Science and Innovation of the Parliament of Ukraine, Anatoly Zagorodny, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Stanislav Vilchynskii, Head of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, and Olha Krevska, Director of the Directorate for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. They welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of awareness of grant opportunities to support both Ukrainian scientists, researchers and innovators and the integration of domestic science and innovation into the European and global research area, especially in the context of the ongoing full-scale war.
During the panels, the participants discussed a number of important and issues, including the realities and prospects for the development of science in Ukraine, Integration of Ukraine to ERA and GRA, international multilateral partnerships and cooperation. In particular, European projects with opportunities for Ukrainian participants within the initiatives of the COST Association, the EU4Health Programme in Ukraine, and the EIT Community RIS Hub in Ukraine were presented. Grant opportunities for business within the Horizon Europe Framework Programme were also discussed.
In addition to speeches and discussions, the information event was a landmark event for national science. The Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine Olga Polotska and the Head of the EIT Community RIS Hub Ukraine Ihor Markevych signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between National Research Foundation of Ukraine and EIT Community RIS Hub in Ukraine. The aim is to strengthen the support and development of national science, research and innovation through close cooperation between these institutions.
In conclusion, Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, summarized the results of the information event dedicated to Science Day 2024. The event was attended by representatives of the European Commission, relevant Ministries of Ukraine, the Council of the President Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports, the Parliament of Ukraine, national and foreign National Academies of Sciences, scientific institutions, Programme committees responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Horizon Europe Programme, Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, and many others.
