Opportunities for domestic researchers discussed at a webinar as part of the MSCA4Ukraine initiative

On March 5, a webinar on the participation of Ukrainian researchers in projects initiated by MSCA4Ukraine was held. The event was organised by the international network Scholars at Risk Europe, which works to protect researchers at risk and further academic freedom. Representatives of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the NRFU – Head of the Department Igor Taranov and Leading Officer responsible for the MSCA component of the Horizon Europe Programme Yuliia Reminska joined the event at the invitation of the organisers.

Thus, the Head of the Office presented the activities of the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine since its launch on the basis of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. Igor Taranov also shared common information and successful stories of participation of Ukrainian researchers and innovators in the Horizon Europe Programme, in particular under the Marie-Skłodowska Curie Actions component.

Among the speakers, MSCA was also presented by Iryna Steimiller, Deputy Director for International Activities of the Department of Strategic Development and International Programmes at the International European University, which is the Horizon Europe NСP in the area of Marie-Skłodowska Curie Actions.

A number of important topics were covered during the webinar:
– the future perspectives of MSCA4Ukraine and possible extension of similar initiatives
– practical aspects of grant applications and selection processes
– challenges of mobility, relocation and integration into host institutions
– the role of international R&D networks in supporting Ukrainian researchers.

In addition, the event featured success stories from MSCA4Ukraine participants who shared their experiences: Dr Kateryna Karpenko, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Medical Sociology at Kharkiv National Medical University, and Yuliia Prokopuk, researcher and dendrochronologist at the Institute of Evolutionary Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv.

The MSCA4Ukraine initiative is a special fellowship programme under the MSCA component of the Horizon Europe Programme. It was launched in response to russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine to support forcibly relocated Ukrainian researchers to continue their work in the EU member states and countries associated with the Programme.
