On November 27, representatives of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, at the invitation of Borys Burkinsky, Director of the Institute for Market and Economic and Environmental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, took part in the round table discussion “European Innovation Council and European Innovation Systems: Opportunities for Financing Cooperation between Science and Business in Research and Innovation”. The purpose of the event was to discuss steps towards a more complete use of EU funding instruments for the development of research and innovation by the institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the business sector. Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the NRFU informs that on December 09, 2024 the COST Association Info-Day for Ukraine will be held. 

The event is organised for representatives of higher education institutions, research institutions, SME, NGOs and anyone interested in the COST Programme opportunities.

The event will be held from 15:00 to 17:00 Kyiv time in an online format. 

The event is organised by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and the COST Association with support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

15:00-15:10 – welcoming remarks by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Olga Polotska, Executive Director of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.

On November 25, the staff of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU held a regular training event for representatives of the network of National Contact Points of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe. This is the second webinar in a series of training events held by the Office for national NCPs. This time, the listeners received useful knowledge that will help new participants navigate the registration of their organisation on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal, learned information about the main tools for finding partners and the features of using Horizon Dashboard as a tool, namely, the algorithm for searching and analysing information. The information event “Issues of participation in Horizon Europe calls under the cluster 3 “Civil Security for Society” was held

On November 21, 2024, the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs hosted an information event on “Issues of participation in Horizon Europe calls under the cluster 3 “Civil Security for Society”, which was joined by representatives of the NRFU.

The event was organised to inform the scientific, educational and professional community about the opportunities of Horizon Europe Programme, in particular, about the functioning of the National Contact Point (NCP) for Cluster 3 “Civil Security for Society”. The participants also overviewed the structure of Cluster 3, its thematic areas and the activities of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine. Information was provided on Ukraine’s participation in calls under the Cluster 3 and related success stories were presented.

The speakers of the event were Oleksiy Serdiuk (Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs), Oleksandr Chemeris (G.E. Pukhov Institute for Modelling in Energy Engineering), representatives of the NCP for Cluster 3 “Civil Security for Society”, and Olga Kurykina, Leading Officer of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, NRFU, who is responsible for Cluster 3.

The webinar programme covered the following key topics:

  • conditions and examples of participation in Horizon Europe calls under the Cluster 3;
  • typical problems during the application process related to the specific conditions of calls under the Cluster 3 and the requirements for participants to be involved in consortia;
  • support offered by the National Contact Points for scientists, government agencies, law enforcement agencies, businesses and NGOs to participate in Horizon Europe Programme.

Particular attention was paid to the specifics of funding under the Cluster 3 and opportunities for cooperation within the Programme. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers and receive practical advice on how to prepare applications.

United by science: Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine NRFU Participated in the Third Annual Science Marathon

On November 18, 2024, the Third Annual Scientific Marathon “United by Science” started in Kyiv. The event, which will run from November 18 to 22, is traditionally organised by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. 

This year’s event convened the university’s administration, academic staff, early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and all stakeholders engaged in the scientific domain. Its objective is to foster intra-university interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, with a focus on enhancing and expanding grant-related activities, particularly through participation in calls under the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe”.

The five-day marathon was opened by Ganna Tolstanova, Vice-Rector for Research at Kyiv National University. The Rector of Kyiv National University, Volodymyr Buhrov, addressed the participants of the event in a video message. 

Olena Makarenko, Head of the Expert Group on Strategy and Integration into the European Research Area within the Directorate for Science Development at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, addressed the audience. She discussed the expert group’s initiatives, international projects, and the Ministry’s infrastructure support for current and prospective participants in the Horizon Europe Programme. This support includes appointing representatives to programme committees and establishing a network of National Contact Points (NCPs).

The event was also attended by the head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the NFDU Igor Taranov. In his speech to the participants, he noted, among other things, that this is the second time since the beginning of the work of  Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine that the NRFU has joined the marathon. The Head of Office told the audience about its main tasks and achievements over the year of work, outlining the opportunities and assistance provided by the Office’s specialists to potential and current participants of the Horizon Europe Programme. Igor Taranov called on the participants to contact the Office, as well as national contact points, for assistance in participating in the Program’s competitions, applying for and successfully implementing projects that have received funding.

The participants were also addressed by Anton Nanovov, Deputy Head of the NDS of the Kyiv National University, representative of the NCP in the field of “Digitalization, Industry and Space”, which operates on the basis of the Kyiv National University, and Vitalina Babenko, Head of the Department of Computer Systems of Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University, Head of the NCP in the field of “European Institute of Innovation and Technology”.

The participants engaged in discussions on key issues related to fostering collaboration for participation in international projects, with a particular emphasis on the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which the audience raised queries regarding the activities of the Office, among other topics.
