On May 29, representatives of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) paid a working visit to the National Research Foundation of Ukraine. Ralph Heinrich and Oskar Fast from the Committee on Innovation, Competitiveness and Public-Private Partnerships of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division of the UNECE were interested in the activities of the NRFU in today’s conditions. On May 27, the team of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine took part in the meeting of the informal working group on research and innovation within the Eastern Partnership Summit. The 6th Informal Working Group Meeting on Research and Innovation, which is taking place on May 26-28 in Vilnius, Republic of Lithuania, is dedicated, in particular, to the support of Ukraine by the European Union and the Eastern Partnership partner countries in the field of research and innovation.
Among the issues discussed by the participants were: the state of implementation of research and development priorities after 2020 – the state of play and focus on participation of the Eastern Partnership partner countries in the Horizon Europe Program. During the roundtable “Challenges for the Implementation of the Eastern Partnership in Research and Innovation”, representatives of the Eastern Partnership countries reported on increasing the participation of partner countries in Horizon Europe.
Grygorii Mozolevych, Director-General, Directorate of Science and Innovation, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, represented Ukraine and reported on the support of the European Union and the Eastern Partnership partner countries for Ukraine in the field of research and innovation. Other topics of importance for the development and strengthening of Ukraine within the Eastern Partnership: special support measures for UA in Lithuania and support to digital innovation in the Eastern Partnership region – special measures for Ukraine deep tech/digital.
Specialists of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, including the members of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine, continue to hold information events to represent the public opportunities offered by the NRFU and EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon Europe”. On May 24, a training and information event “Grant opportunities of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine and support tools within the Horizon Europe Programme” was held in Lutsk at the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. On May 21, the Head of Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine took part in a workshop organized by the Cedos think tank as part of the project “Strengthening the capacity of communities to participate in EU programmes”. The project aims to help Ukrainian communities apply for EU funding. As a part of the project, it is planned to hold series of three online workshops to help communities get to know the available programmes and key tips on how to apply for them. The first workshop was held on May 16.
During the speech, the Head of the Office spoke about the opportunities of Horizon Europe Framework Programme and elaborated on competitions for business, as the development of small and medium-sized enterprises means new jobs, taxes to community budgets and opportunities for innovative development.
The event also attended by Christian Larsen, National Expert in the Ukrainian service of the Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) and experts in the field of local, regional, and innovative development.
